Hawaii Marine Expelled for Puppy Video
David Motari, the Hawaii marine who was engulfed in controversy over a video clip posted to YouTube in March, has been expelled from the service. The video showed Motari throwing a puppy off a cliff while on patrol in Iraq.
According to an official statement placed front and center yesterday on the website for Marine Corps Base Hawaii, "Lance Corporal David Motari received Non-Judicial Punishment... and is being processed for separation from the Marine Corps for his role in the episode." The other marine in the video, Sergeant Crismarvin Banez Encarnacion, was also punished, but apparently will not be expelled.
The details of "Non-Judicial Punishment" are protected by privacy rules.
"The Marine Corps conducted a thorough investigation as soon as it learned of the event and acted as swiftly as possible," the statement reads. "The actions seen in the Internet video are contrary to the high standards we expect of every Marine and will not be tolerated."
