For a geek, "anticipation" is having a new gadget delivered at home while you're at work.
My birthday gift to myself is the new PalmOne Treo 650. I had preordered it and everything, and Sprint — the first provider to carry it, and fortunately my current provider — opened the floodgates last week. I then became one of many obsessive gadget freaks slamming UPS' package tracking website to figure out when we'd get our hands on 'em.
More than once I lamented the fact that living in paradise means "Overnight" and "Second Day Air" means nothing. Nothing!
But finally, five days after my order cleared, my new toy is now waiting for me in Mililani. (Bizarrely, they left it at the door even though Jen was home.) Three and a half hours to go!
And yes, Jen has already come to terms with my affliction and is expecting me to be useless tonight. By the way, I found one way to ease my impatience was to get a realistic idea of how long UPS takes to move packages between its hubs. I could do this by Googling for other people who've posted their UPS tracking details on the web... mostly folks similarly chomping at the bit to get their stuff.
Since I found those random datapoints to be useful, I figured I'd post my own tracking logs in case it helps someone else. Call it Google Food.
