Roz Savage Rows to Hawaii
Roz Savage Arrives in Hawaii from hawaii on Vimeo. After 99 days at sea, including an unlikely encounter with another unlikely vessel, solo rower Roz Savage arrived at Waikiki Yacht Harbor yesterday. Her historic ocean crossing was celebrated by a crowd of friends, supporters, and reporters... and, in fact, her return to dry land was postponed a few hours so the media could greet her at sea off Diamond Head for some perfect ocean shots. Her entire journey was meticulously documented and tracked, with Roz recording regular podcasts and posting blog entries. There were Twitter updates as well. I posted the above video to Vimeo and Blip.TV. Enjoy her much anticipated arrival, her celebratory "glass" of champagne, her tale of meeting the JUNK raft, her answers to dumb questions from local TV news crews, and her agriculture check (wherein the official had trouble getting a handle on the fact that Roz's vessel had no motor). I also posted iPhone photos to Flickr directly from the scene. While there, I also got to talk to Dr. Marcus Eriksen and Anna Cummins of the JUNK raft. We'll be interviewing Dr. Eriksen and expedition partner Joel Paschal tomorrow on Bytemarks Cafe.
